Spanish for Beginners

Buenos Dias! This is the perfect opportunity to learn basic Spanish grammar, vocabulary and common phrases. Pedro will teach you everyday greetings, days of the week, months of the year, weather, money, numbers, transportation, food, and asking for and giving directions. Knowing basic Spanish is a great skill for communicating in today’s culture. (No class on 4/18) INSTRUCTOR: Pedro Gil is originally from the Dominican Republic, so Spanish is his native language. He was a professor of Philosophy and History in the DR at UASD. Pedro has taught Spanish at other adult education programs in the past and looks forward to teaching you!

Stretch and Tone Session 1

Has it been awhile since you have exercised? If the answer is yes, then this class is for you. This low-impact, easy-to-follow exercise class uses light weights to strengthen and tone your muscles. In the process, you will strengthen your bones. We will also concentrate on balance moves, as this is very important for stability and overall health. Instead of crunches, we will focus on core strength moves. Exercises will help you increase flexibility in arms, legs and lower back. Have fun and leave feeling more energized! Wear comfortable clothing, sneakers, and bring an optional mat or towel. INSTRUCTOR: Judy Stark has been a Certified Group Fitness Instructor in numerous formats for 15+ years.

Ukulele for Beginners

The ukulele is a versatile, portable instrument that is fun to play. You can play folk, rock, blues, pop, country and even classical music. Using familiar songs, you will learn basic chord positions, strumming and picking styles. No experience with a stringed instrument or reading music needed. You must have a soprano, concert, or tenor size ukulele (no baritones) and an electronic tuner. Request information at registration about how and where you can buy the best ukulele for you. All music included. INSTRUCTOR: Duncan Perry is a multi-instrumentalist who has been playing the ukulele for 10 years. He is a teacher, performer and entertains regularly at festivals, nursing homes, libraries and schools.

Watercolor Painting

Learn and practice a variety of techniques and approaches specific to watercolor painting. Whether a beginner or experienced, enjoy a relaxing and supportive environment to paint from references, still life objects and observation. You will receive feedback and see what others are working on. Bring ideas for projects to class for instruction tailored to your needs, or participate in guided exercises to gain a deeper understanding of this medium. You may bring your own supplies, if you prefer to purchase your own supplies, please request a materials list at registration. INSTRUCTOR: Russel Whitten studied Fine Arts and Art Education at Heartwood College of Art, Maine College of Art and Art Student League in New York. All are welcome in this slow-paced, easy yoga class. The new practitioner and those with some prior experience will enjoy this gentle yoga practice. We will have a strong emphasis on connection to breath. Bring a mat, block, strap and a small, firm pillow to class. INSTRUCTOR: Leslie Fiore is a certified Anusara yoga teacher. She has worked with many of the top yoga teachers in the country. Leslie believes it’s not a complete class without a few hip-opening poses and a good laugh.
