This course will provide you with an overview of U.S. Coast Guard mandatory safety gear and safe boating practices. You will also discuss principles of safe boating, based on the instructor’s extensive personal experience. There will be a brief opportunity for hands-on application of basic seamanship skills such as knot tying, cleating, and securing boats to docks and moorings. You will also examine the effects of the wind and current while boating and docking.
INSTRUCTOR: Chris Mayo is the Wells Harbormaster for over 6 years. He was a commercial fisherman for most of his life and worked on NOAA research ships for 4 years becoming one of the youngest Chief Boatswains. Chris attended Maine Maritime Academy and earned his Associates degree in Marine Transportation and Small Vessel Operations.
