Wells-Ogunquit Adult Community Education

Organic Gardening


Join a member of the Maine Organic Farmers & Gardeners Association (MOFGA) to learn how to grow your own vegetable garden organically. You will study the basics of soil science, how to enrich your soil to produce healthy, high-yielding plants, how to make and use compost, the principles of crop rotation and how to incorporate green manures to manage nutrients in the garden. Other topics will include how to tell the difference between cultivated plants and weeds, basic weed control strategies and cultural methods for dealing with pests. All participants will receive free seeds, a copy of the presentation and a resource guide. INSTRUCTOR: Marilyn Stanley is an experienced farmer and gardener. She and her husband, Rick, own Chick Farm in Wells where they raise organic chickens, vegetables and berries.
