WATERCOLOR S1 - Beginner

Learn and practice a variety of techniques and approaches  specific to watercolor painting. Whether a beginner or experienced, enjoy a relaxing and supportive environment to  paint from references, still life objects and observation. You  will receive feedback and see what others are working on.  Bring ideas for projects to class for instruction tailored to  your needs, or participate in guided exercises to gain a deeper  understanding of this medium. You may bring your own  supplies, if you prefer to purchase your own supplies, please  request a materials list at registration. 

INSTRUCTOR: Russel Whitten studied Fine Arts and Art Education at Heartwood College of Art, Maine College of Art and Art Student League in New York. He is a member and showing artist with the Ogunquit Arts Association/Barn Gallery and The Wright Gallery in Cape Porpoise. Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens

Come join us for an adventure in exploring the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is a people’s garden, a grassroots effort that began as a casual conversation between friends and evolved into the largest botanical garden in New England. Lunch is available at the Kitchen Garden  Café, at the Market on-site or bring your own lunch. To search  for what’s in bloom during a specific time period, please visit  FloraFind, our online database of what is planted at Coastal  Maine Botanical Gardens. Please register early, there is a limit of ten. Transportation is provided

By focusing on breathing and alignment, you’ll feel  taller, stronger, and more energized. This class is perfect for anyone looking to improve their  posture and vitality.

Let’s Make A Beaded Rosette! S1

All participants will receive a $25.00 American Indian Beading Design kit in which instructions are included. Together, we will work through the directions for a beaded rosette over two class periods. Beaded rosettes were typically used as a decorative artform that symbolizes wealth and status. Rosettes were used as trade items. Now, native artisans attach these beaded forms to a wide variety of garments, from headdresses or bonnets to shirts, pants, moccasins, and gloves. Let’s Create for Useful Sake!

This 4 hour American Red Cross in person training will give you the skills to help save a life and it is the accepted certification for support workers and teachers and is an opportunity to achieve the skills of assisting someone in an emergency until first responders arrive. Learn the techniques of responding to various emergency situations with a combination of guided lectures, videos, and hands on practices.

Instructor Jeffrey Darnell Carpenter is the Training Coordinator/Workforce Recruiter for Granite Bay Care in Scarborough and has many years of experience in teaching. His passion for subject matter and his presentation skills are accessible to everyone. He is a seasoned educator and public speaker with years of sharing instructional and relevant presentations regarding everything from enhancing job experiences to the visual and performing arts. His passion, humor, and knowledge is infectious and inspiring.

We will work out to improve strength, muscle tone, and flexibility with resistance bands, balls, and body weight, incorporating the newest techniques in personal training for cognitive health. We will work on improving your balance, gait, and confidence with agility training. Wear comfortable clothes, sneakers, bring yoga mats, a friend, or your own exercise bands if you like.

Instructor: Jane Wyman has been an ACE-Certified Personal Fitness Trainer for 20 years.

 

Nordic Walking S1- NEW!

Calendar Sep 11, 2025 at 1 pm, runs for 5 weeks

Nordic walking with snowshoes and poles can burn more calories than regular walking, it develops upper body strength while reducing impact on joints. Suitable for the beginners.  Please wear comfortable footwear and dress for the Maine outdoor winter weather. Bring your own walking poles or let us know if you may need some.
