American Mah Jongg

Challenge yourself by learning to play this mind-stimulating social table game for 3 or 4 players. It is much like gin rummy, using a set of checker-like tiles marked with Chinese symbols. Cost of Mah Jongg book and card is an additional $20 and available through Amazon. The instructor will provide information the first night of class. INSTRUCTOR: Beth Saidman is an avid Mah Jongg player and has been teaching for 18 years. She makes learning easy and fun.

Chalk/Clay Painting 101

In this basic course, you will learn 5 techniques of chalk painting, including paint layering, paint washing, clear wax, dark wax and glazing. These techniques are done on wood, glass or metal. Gain the confidence to paint furniture, kitchen cabinets or lamps in your own home. Paints are no VOC (volatile organic compounds), odorless and contain no solvents. No stripping, sanding or priming is necessary to transform your project into something new. All instruction, paints, brushes, finishes, moldings, glass and other supplies are included. Wear clothes suitable for painting. INSTRUCTOR: Darlene Mitchell has been passionate about furniture painting for 40 years. Five years ago Darlene enrolled in beginner and advanced classes for chalk/porcelain clay paints. She then became a retailer and opened Mainely Vintage, which is located in Reed's Antiques in Wells.

Pickling Spring Vegetables

Spring vegetables in Maine have a short season, so learn how to preserve these tender green vegetables to enjoy year round. UMaine Extension staff and Master Food Preserver volunteers will teach you how to safely preserve pickled fiddleheads or asparagus using the hot water bath method. Participants will receive recipes and a jar of homemade pickles. Please bring a potholder to class. Cost includes $20 for materials. INSTRUCTOR: Kate McCarty has been the Food Preservation Community Education Assistant at UMaine Extension since 2009, after serving in the AmeriCorps VISTA program. She has completed the Master Food Preserver program, an intensive, hands-on training in all aspects of home food preservation.

Stretch and Tone Session 2

Has it been awhile since you have exercised? If the answer is yes, then this class is for you. This low-impact, easy-to-follow exercise class uses light weights to strengthen and tone your muscles. In the process, you will strengthen your bones. We will also concentrate on balance moves, as this is very important for stability and overall health. Instead of crunches, we will focus on core strength moves. Exercises will help you increase flexibility in arms, legs and lower back. Have fun and leave feeling more energized! Wear comfortable clothing, sneakers, and bring an optional mat or towel. INSTRUCTOR: Judy Stark has been a Certified Group Fitness Instructor in numerous formats for 15+ years.

Williamsburg Basket - May 15th

This large oval woven based basket has color and is large enough to hold your blankets or use as a market or gathering basket. Please bring the following to class: mop-size bucket, sturdy shears, 12 spring-type clothespins, tape measure, pencil, jack knife, spray bottle and old towel. Materials fee of $16 payable to instructor at class. INSTRUCTOR: Martha Chessie began her love of baskets by taking basket-weaving classes 35 years ago through an Adult Education program. She now sells her baskets throughout Maine and her home state of Vermont. Martha enjoys adding unique items to her creations such as antlers, beaver sticks, horse bits, leather reins and halters, birch strips and seashore finds.


Yoga for Everybody Section 2

All are welcome in this slow-paced, easy yoga class. The new practitioner and those with some prior experience will enjoy this gentle yoga practice. We will have a strong emphasis on connection to breath. Bring a mat, block, strap and a small, firm pillow to class. INSTRUCTOR: Leslie Fiore is a certified Anusara yoga teacher. She has worked with many of the top yoga teachers in the country. Leslie believes it’s not a complete class without a few hip-opening poses and a good laugh.

Robin's Zumba® classes have been running strong for over 6 years. Zumba® is dance exercise for people who don't consider themselves dancers but love to dance. The moves are easy to follow and set to fun, high energy Latin and international music with an occasional top 40, oldie or country song. The hour flies by and you will get a great workout. Dress in comfortable workout clothes and sneakers with good support but not a lot of tread. Don't forget your water. no class on May 28 (S3)
